So we woke up, found a bakery with some yummy bread and this yummy cinnamon pastry that was kind of like a cinnamon roll but not really - it was so good! Pastries in Europe are so fresh tasting, and are not quite as sugary and sweet as they are here.
Anyway, we then got on a bus and fulfilled a dream of mine as we took "The Sound of Music tour". I love The Sound of Music! I happen to think that it is one of the best movies of all time. The music is unforgettable, the scenery is unforgettable and Julie Andrews is amazing!
This was our tour guide. He was funny, very flamboyant, and knew every answer to every question imaginable about the Von Trapp family, the movie and/or movies and productions, Salzburg, etc. - it was amazing!
Do you recognize any of this?
They used the back porch of this house and the lake of course.
This is the wall, gate and front of the house ("I Have Confidence"). It is now a music school and not open for tours.
The trees the kids climbed (on the same street as the music school).
The gazebo which used to sit on the side of the house by the lake, but was later moved.
Nonnberg Abbey, with the red onion tower.
Overlooking the city of Mondsee (Moon City).
The cathedral in Mondsee where the wedding scene took place.
Across the street from the cathedral was a nice place to take a break and eat some apple strudel with warm vanilla sauce.
Mirabellgarten, where most of "Do-Re-Mi" was filmed (and a super popular wedding picture spot). Is it familiar?
Because of the rain and clouds, we weren't able to see the mountain where Maria sang at the beginning of the film - but all in all this tour was awesome! I can check that off my "bucket list." So fun!
