Rothenberg

Our next quick stop was a "walled city" named Rothenberg. It was founded in 1170 and was the inspiration for the village in Pinocchio. Some of the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was also filmed there. I thought that was kind of neat! Anyway...

It was chilly and a bit rainy.

Here is the Town Hall.

Inside the walls, Rothenberg looked just like what you would think of a German town looking like. It was so great!

Then they had this amazing Christmas store.

Kathe Wohlfahrt is to Christmas ornaments what Mary Kay is to make-up.

My Grandma would have loved this shop. There were painted ornaments, hand blown glass ornaments, wooden ornaments, ceramic ornaments, cloth ornaments, and on, and on, and on, and there were nutcrackers of every kind! It was just magical!

And then there was this bakery...

We got Shneeballs (a German pastry - kind of like yummy pie crust rolled in a ball, cooked or fried, and dipped in chocolate, vanilla or any and all things yummy) and we got an apple strudel. I really can't believe that I don't have a picture of this apple strudel. Maybe... because it was so unbelievably delicious that I could not think of anything else but indulging all of my senses while eating this little part of Heaven! I'm just sure that all others would be lacking in comparison - it was so fresh tasting and the apples were just perfect - hmmmmmmm, ok that will be all for now! :)
